HE AbdulRahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, the Minister of Health and Prevention, said that International Nurses Day is an important occasion to highlight the strategic significance of the nursing profession in healthcare systems around the world and its essential position in supporting universal health coverage.
Al Owais affirmed that the Covid-19 pandemic clearly demonstrated the substantial role of the nursing cadres in the first line of defense to safeguard community health, noting that the state’s wise leadership’s stances and directives have embodied the profound appreciation for the medical staff, who responded to the call of duty with dedication and perseverance, something that reflects the unity of the Emirati people in such challenging times.
“We are proud of the tremendous efforts being made by our medical and nursing cadres to maintain the health and safety of our people. They are truly an inspiring humanitarian model and a source of confidence and reassurance,” added Al Owais, pointing out that the nursing cadres have proven their great competence and capability in providing outstanding healthcare service with high professionalism and humanity.
Stressing that the Health Ministry has attached special importance to the health and safety of healthcare professionals through the constant training and provision of all requirements of occupational protection, Al Owais made it clear that participation in International Nurses Day clearly underlines the high status of the nursing cadres in the national health policies.
The Health Minister shed light on the National Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery – Roadmap for 2025, which was launched in cooperation with the state’s ministries and government, and private bodies, noting that the strategy aims to embrace innovation standards in nursing practices and enhance work to build effective partnerships that cement the status of the nursing profession, thus providing comprehensive and integrated healthcare services aligned with the state’s forward-looking vision and its evolution in various sectors.
