Khulood Al Shamsi: Defining The Future Of Healthcare HR

Underscoring its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery systems, Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) – the UAE’s largest healthcare network – continues to empower its Emirati workforce with valuable resources, skills and opportunities for long-term growth and success in today’s evolving landscape.

Among SEHA’s specialists who are driving this ambition forward isKhulood Al Shamsi, Corporate Senior HR Projects Officer, SEHA. Al Shamsi has been integral in shaping sustainable employee engagement strategies to ensure a highly trained, well-equipped, and agile workforce remains at the forefront of SEHA’s preparedness and response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Quality patient experiences come from highly engaged employees,” commented Al Shamsi. “HR professionals in healthcare need to be partners with practitioners in improving employee engagement, job satisfaction, and in turn, the quality of patient care. With the COVID-19 pandemic in particular, we saw the healthcare industry accelerate tenfold – and HR continues to play a pivotal strategic role in that evolution. Creating exemplary work environments that improve employees’ quality of life and productivity will remain a key priority for us as we chart a new course for the post-pandemic era.”

Underscoring the importance of developing an effective and positive organizational culture, Al Shamsi has been intrinsic in developing several tools to ensure industry best practices can be implemented throughout SEHA’s network, enhancing employee performance, competitiveness, and sustainability. For example, Al Shamsi and her team conducted a study on employee happiness, SEHA’s “Best 1,000 Employees Program”, various ongoing compensation and benefits studies, in addition to the network’s human resources dashboard, data analysis and reporting, and key performance indicators – as presented during the Government Best Practices in Happiness and Wellbeing Forum, organized by the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs.

She has also been integral in driving recognition for SEHA across prestigious platforms, including the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance in 2018 where SEHA received three awards – Award for Excellence in Innovation, Award for Excellence in Organizational Enablers, and the Award for Excellence in Digital Government.

Al Shamsi was able to assume her current position as a result of SEHA’s commitment to providing its talent with the right platform and support and provided her with the opportunity to continue her postgraduate education and complete a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management.

Commenting on her journey with SEHA, Al Shamsi concluded, “Working in SEHA has been an enlightening journey for me, enriching my professional and personal life with a humanitarian perspective that differs from working in any other sector. It has been an incredible experience to lead, and learn from, my teams as we continue to demonstrate resilience and a high sense of duty to deliver outstanding care to our patients.I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to positively contribute to SEHA’s mission of shaping a modern, progressive healthcare network, and look forward to taking the country’s healthcare sector to new heights.”

Al Shamsi’s advice to Emirati youth is to strive to exert more effort and commitment towards attaining higher levels of education and seeking inspiration from the strength and resurgence of the UAE and its people.
