Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), the UAE’s largest healthcare network, today announced that over 200,000 patients have sought treatment across its orthopedic facilities. Of these 200,000 patients, over 35,000 have been treated in the first half of 2019 alone. Most orthopedic cases range from victims of traffic accidents and fall, to workplace-related injuries caused due to long hours of being seated. Orthopedic surgeons at SEHA hospitals have managed over 10,464 complex bone and fracture operations since 2017, leveraging new technologies to deliver successful treatment.
Sheikh Khalifa Medical City’s (SKMC) Orthopedic and Injuries Center continues to advance diagnostic and treatment services for all orthopedic cases. For the first time ever, SKMC conducted the very first total knee replacement surgery in the UAE earlier in 2019. This builds on the institution’s track record of successfully managing issues such as joint replacements, orthopedic surgeries, shoulder, hip, foot and ankle surgeries, and limb reconstruction.
Dr. Nawal Al Kaabi, Chief Medical Officer , SKMC said: “Across the SEHA network and here at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, we continue to deliver high-quality medical care for patients who visit us with the most complex orthopedic issues. Our patient-first philosophy is embedded in ensuring safety and comfort, which has helped in creating an environment of trust between patients and our doctors.
A level X trauma center, Al Ain Hospital specializes in treating complex bone traumas, cartilage restoration, sports medicine injuries, pediatric orthopedic surgeries, spine, foot, and ankle surgery. In the first few months of 2019, the Al Ain Hospital has seen over 9,000 patients including complex cases such as the entire replacement of the left wrist in one patient, and the successful treatment of another patient’s rare congenital limp.
Across the SEHA network, Tawam Hospital specializes in complex fractures, pediatric orthopedic care, and bone tumors. The availability of orthopedic and oncology services has created an integrated approach to patient care at Tawam Hospital, thus ensuring the rapid removal of tumors in bones as well as the treatment of rare disorders such as congenital hip dislocations. The hospital has seen 6,680 patients in 2019 thus far. Other SEHA entities such as Al Rahba and Al Dhafra Hospitals have seen over 10,000 orthopedic cases in 2019.
Located within close proximity of key highways and communities across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, SEHA’s network of orthopedic facilities ensures that patients are provided with ease of access and rapid transfers for the treatment they require.
