The National Health Insurance Company – Daman, provided breast cancer awareness sessions for over 1,000 participants at leading companies and entities in the UAE, as part of the company’s commitment towards shaping a healthier community through active engagement and awareness campaigns.
The sessions took place as part of the insurer’s support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the global campaign to raise awareness of the disease, helping individuals identify early signs of breast cancer.
During virtual sessions, staff from Daman trained participants on identifying potential early warning signs of breast cancer, and how to perform monthly breast self-examinations to note for any changes. Damantrained individuals working in key corporate clients within the emirate and across the UAE.
Hamad Al Mehyas, Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Company – Daman, said: “At Daman, it is our duty to ensure we continue to promote awareness of breast cancer through these annual sessions for both female and male policy holders. Through our leading awareness sessions, Daman is committed to instilling the importance of health awareness, as part of our ongoing health and wellness programming among all our clients. Through awareness programs, Daman looks to shape a healthier community in the UAE – in recognition of the responsibility we have as part of our role as the leading health insurer in the country.”
He continued: “Breast cancer is the most common occurring amongst women worldwide, and the second most common form of cancer overall. While over the past fifty years, global breast cancer mortality rates have declined, ensuring increased community awareness of the importance of early detection continues to be a cornerstone priority of public health teams worldwide.”
“In this context, Daman is committed to playing its role in raising awareness of early warning signs of breast cancer and working alongside government entities to make sure that women and men in the UAE understand the importance of regular self-assessment for breast cancer,” added Al Mehyas.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is marked annually in October by nations around the world, raising both attention and support of the importance of awareness, early detection, and early treatment of the disease.
